ICC Tournaments Boycott: Before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Bangladesh Cricket Board has requested ICC to transfer its matches from India to Sri Lanka citing security reasons. ICC has rejected this request. After this, Bangladesh cricket team refused to participate in the T20 World Cup, and ICC has included Scotland in their place.
Now Pakistan Cricket Board has refused to play its matches against India. Let’s look at other examples where teams have boycotted ICC tournaments.
Australia and West Indies refused to play in the 1996 World Cup
Australia refused to play in Sri Lanka after a major bomb blast during the 1996 World Cup. Due to which the host team got a historic walkover. Along with Australia, the West Indies also refused to play their 1996 match in Colombo, allowing Sri Lanka to qualify for the quarter-finals without playing a match.
England boycotted the 2003 World Cup
England boycotted their 2003 World Cup match in Zimbabwe in protest against the Mugabe regime. Due to this move the English team could not reach the Super Six stage of the tournament.

New Zealand boycotted the 2003 World Cup
New Zealand has abandoned its match against Kenya citing terrorist threats in Nairobi. Due to which the associate country has reached the World Cup semi-finals.
New Zealand withdraws from 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup
The New Zealand team withdrew from the ICC Under-19 tournament in the West Indies due to strict COVID-19 quarantine rules. Later Scotland was included in its place.
Zimbabwe did not play in the 2009 World Cup due to visa problems.
Zimbabwe withdrew from the 2009 T20 World Cup because the UK government refused to grant visas to their players, citing political tensions.
