ICC expressed objection to the decision of Pakistan government
On the decision of not playing against India, the ICC issued a statement saying – “The ICC has taken note of the statement of the Government of Pakistan in which it has informed about the decision to direct its national team to participate selectively in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Until the ICC receives official information from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), this decision of participation of select teams does not match the basic principle of a global sports event, where all “Qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms as per the event schedule.”
The statement further said – “ICC tournaments are based on the integrity, competition, continuity and fairness of the game, and selective participation dilutes the spirit and sanctity of the competitions. While the ICC respects the role of governments in matters of national policy, this decision is not in the interest of the global game or the welfare of fans around the world, including millions in Pakistan.”

“The ICC hopes the PCB will consider the important and long-term consequences for cricket in its own country, as it has the potential to impact the global cricket ecosystem, of which it is a member and beneficiary. The ICC’s priority is to successfully conduct the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which should be the responsibility of all its members, including the PCB. It hopes the PCB will find a solution that protects the interests of all stakeholders.”
