What is Amrit Bharat Express and why special?

Amrit Bharat Express is a modern, but completely non-AC long distance train, specially designed keeping in mind the general and sleeper class passengers. This train was launched in December 2023 and its objective is to make long distance travel affordable, increase capacity on congested routes, and provide better travel to general and sleeper class passengers. Amrit Bharat Express is being run especially on those routes where labourers, students and middle class passengers travel in large numbers. Meaning, this train is for those passengers who cannot pay the AC train fare, but want basic comfort, safety and confidence in their journey.

How many coaches are there in Amrit Bharat Express?

Amrit Bharat Express is a completely non-AC train. In this, coaches have been installed keeping in mind the needs of common passengers. It has 11 General Class coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 1 Pantry Car and 2 Second Class-cum-Luggage-cum-Guard Vans. It has separate facilities for disabled passengers. This configuration is designed to handle heavy passenger numbers.

What is the fare of Amrit Bharat Express?

The fare of Amrit Bharat Express has been kept around Rs 500 for 1,000 km. For short journeys the fare reduces accordingly. The biggest thing is that there is no dynamic pricing in it, that is, the fare does not increase suddenly even during festivals or crowds. Some new rules have been implemented in this train from January 2026. Now RAC facility has been abolished in sleeper class. This means that the ticket will either be fully confirmed or will go straight to waiting list. With this, passengers will know in advance whether the journey will take place or not. Also, a minimum charge of at least 200 kilometers in sleeper class and 50 kilometers in general class has been fixed.

How to book ticket in Amrit Bharat Express?

Ticket booking of Amrit Bharat Express is exactly like that of normal trains. You can book tickets from IRCTC's official website or mobile app. Apart from this, tickets are also available from the reservation counter of the railway station. Unreserved tickets are also available for general class.
