Newly released footage of Jeffrey Epstein showed the sex predator's chilling response when asked if he was "the devil himself". The video file, which is nearly two hours long, shows the monster being questioned by an unknown journalist, as part of millions of files released by the US Department of Justice on Friday, January 30.
The reporter posed a scenario to Epstein, asking whether he believes that people in the most "dire straits of poverty and sickness" would accept his "dirty money" for their children, if they knew the funds came from him. Epstein responded: "I would say, everyone says I want the money for my children. I think, [even] if you told them the devil himself said 'I'm going to exchange some dollars for your child's life'."
The reporter interjected and asked Epstein if he believed he was indeed "the devil himself", but the monster joked in response to the queries, smirking while saying a chilling response: "No, but I have a good mirror."
When the reporter insisted that Epstein took the question seriously, the sex offender asked: "I don't know, why would you say that?"
The journalist explained that he had "all the attributes" of the devil, including intelligence, but Epstein responded: "No, the devil scares me."
It has not been specified when or why the footage was filmed, but it appears to be after he was convicted on his first charges of soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2008.
In the interview, the reporter asked Epstein if he was a "class three sexual predator", which is considered to be the highest risk, but Epstein insisted that he was "the lowest" level, despite agreeing he was a criminal.
Since 2008, Epstein had been listed as a level three on the New York sex offenders register, reports the BBC. It was a lifelong designation, meaning he was considered to be at a high risk of reoffending.
He served almost 13 months in custody for the conviction with extensive work release, as part of a controversial plea deal agreed by the US Department of Justice.
Epstein was later arrested and accused of running a "vast network" of underage girls for sex in July 2019, and never faced trial for sex trafficking charges. He had pleaded not guilty and died in a New York prison cell on August 10, 2019, as he awaited trial.
