MLA Neeraj Nayar has criticized the Union Budget for 2026-27, claiming it does not serve the interests of Himachal Pradesh. He expressed that the needs of the state's residents, including farmers, orchardists, and the youth, have been overlooked.
Nayar emphasized that the budget fails to address the unique geographical and economic challenges faced by hill states. He highlighted that Himachal Pradesh has incurred significant financial losses in recent years due to natural disasters like heavy rainfall, landslides, and floods, yet the budget lacks specific provisions for these disaster-stricken areas.
Additionally, he pointed out that the budget does not offer substantial assistance to hill states in tackling climate change challenges.
Expressing deep concern, Neeraj Nayar remarked on the alarming cessation of revenue deficit grants from the central government. He noted that these grants are vital for a resource-limited state like Himachal Pradesh. The removal of this financial support could further deteriorate the state's fiscal health and hinder development initiatives.
He called on the central government to reassess the budget allocations and ensure that Himachal Pradesh receives equitable financial support that aligns with its genuine needs and constitutional entitlements.
