A case that shakes the government education system has come to light from Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. John Mohammed, the headmaster of a government primary school, has been accused of serious allegations of forcing students to offer namaz, declaring Islam superior to other religions and attempting forced conversion. After the allegations were confirmed in the preliminary investigation, the Basic Education Officer (BSA) took immediate action and suspended the accused headmaster.
This case pertains to Naujeel Primary School under Mant police station area. After receiving the complaint, BSA formed a two-member inquiry committee. The preliminary investigation report found Jaan Mohammad prima facie guilty.
According to the complaint, Jaan Mohammad forced the children studying in the school to offer namaz regularly. Not only this, he insulted Hindu gods and goddesses and instigated children to follow Islam by calling it the best religion in the world. It is alleged that during his tenure, the national anthem was not even sung in the school, and children who tried to sing the national anthem were scolded.
Making the matter more serious, it has also come to light that in his presence, Jaan Mohammad called the members of Tablighi Jamaat to the school, where the children were taught Islam and an attempt was allegedly made to convert them. Most of the children studying in the school are from the Hindu community.
BJP Bajna Mandal president Durgesh Pradhan alleged, “He demeaned Hindu religion, insulted Hindu gods and goddesses and invited outsiders from Tablighi Jamaat to schools to teach them Islam. Children were scolded for singing the national anthem and told that Islam was superior to other religions and they should follow it.”
The children were mentally disturbed by the behavior of Jaan Mohammad. He went home and told the whole story to his parents, after which the family brought this matter to the notice of the BJP leader. The parents demanded that the entire incident should be investigated impartially and strict action should be taken.
BSA Ratan Kirti said that after receiving the complaint, an investigation was conducted, in which the accused was found guilty on the basis of the report of the Block Education Officer. He said, “Jaan Mohammad has been suspended and attached to Nagla Humayun Primary School, Mant. Further investigation has been ordered to the BEO of Chhata and Mant. Further action will be taken based on the report.”
Meanwhile, serious concerns have also been raised about his behavior with women at the school. It is alleged that due to fear of defamation, many women could not register their complaints publicly.
This case raises serious questions on religious neutrality, safety of children and constitutional values in government schools. Now everyone’s eyes are on the detailed investigation report and further legal action.
