Lindsey Graham on US-India Trade Deal: American MP Lindsey Graham, considered a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, has once threatened to impose up to 500 percent tariff on India. But now Graham’s tone has completely changed. After the new trade agreement between India and America, he has openly praised India on social media. Graham said India fully “deserved” the tariff cuts because of its conduct. This change is being specifically linked to India agreeing to stop purchasing Russian oil.
Decision on Russian oil and pressure on Putin
Lindsey Graham has described India’s move as a “masterstroke” towards ending the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that the message of President Donald Trump is very clear, the countries which are supporting Putin’s war machine will now have to rethink their strategy.
According to Graham, Putin will come to the negotiating table only when the economic pressure on him becomes unbearable. India’s move away from Russian oil is a big blow to Russia. Now Graham is presenting India as an example to other countries of the world and is hoping that other big countries will also follow India’s path.

Why did Graham change his stance?

Donald Trump claims that India has decided to stop purchasing Russian oil and buy oil from America and Venezuela. Along with this, India has also agreed to open its markets to American products and reduce tariff barriers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the decision, calling President Trump a “dear friend” on social media platform X. He wrote that the reduction in tariff on ‘Made in India’ products to 18 percent is a matter of happiness for India and he thanked President Trump on behalf of 140 crore Indians.
