Zoom Users Alert: If you use Zoom for office meetings, online classes, or chatting with friends, this news is very important for you. The Indian government has issued a high-risk security alert for Zoom users. Amidst increasing cyberattacks, video conferencing apps are becoming new targets for hackers, putting personal data and confidential conversations at risk.

Why did CERT-In issue the warning?

This warning has been issued by the Indian government's cybersecurity agency, CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team). According to the agency, a serious technical vulnerability has been found in Zoom, which cybercriminals can exploit to send dangerous commands to a user's device remotely. If the system is compromised, the hacker can gain control of the device in the same way as its legitimate owner.

How dangerous is this Zoom security vulnerability?

Zoom itself has categorized this vulnerability as Critical. It has been given a CVSS score of 9.9/10, which makes it extremely serious. This vulnerability is technically named CVE-2026-22844. According to reports, any meeting participant can execute malicious commands on the server through the network, which can jeopardize the entire meeting infrastructure.

Which Zoom system has the problem?

This problem is related to Zoom's Node Multimedia Router (MMR), which manages audio and video in large and hybrid meetings. According to CERT-In, older versions of Zoom Node Meetings, Hybrid, and Zoom Node Meeting Connector (prior to 5.2.1716.0) are vulnerable to this threat. As a solution, administrators have been advised to update to the latest version immediately.

How does Zoom use your personal data?

Zoom primarily uses your data to improve its services. This includes remembering your settings, account management, meeting reminders, and providing information about new features. In some cases, the company may also use the data to promote its products, although its privacy policy applies to such uses.

Easy ways to stay safe on Zoom

Taking a few precautions while using Zoom can protect you from significant risks. Always use the latest version of the app to receive security updates. Use strong passwords for meetings and avoid sharing links on public platforms. Keep the waiting room feature enabled so that only authorized participants can join the meeting. Limit screen sharing and avoid clicking on links or files sent by unknown users.
