What is Kiswa and why is it considered so sacred?
Kiswa is a black silk cloth on which verses of the Quran are embroidered with gold and silver threads and with which the Kaaba is covered. In Islam, Kaaba is considered as ‘Baitullah’ i.e. the house of Allah. Every year during Hajj, the kiswa is changed on the 9th of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah. Old Kiswa is cut and divided into pieces, which are given as trust to museums, organizations or special people.
What were these three pieces of Kiswa that reached Epstein?
According to the emails, one piece belonged to the inner lining of the Kaaba. The second one was a used cloth outside. The third was a completely new and unused piece. These pieces were classified as ‘Artwork’ in shipment to ease the customs process.
By which route did Kiswa reach Florida?
Records show that these pieces were sent from Saudi Arabia to America on a British Airways flight. Complete arrangements for customs, invoice and local delivery were made in advance. In March 2017, the shipment reached Epstein’s home in Florida. At that time, Epstein had served a prison sentence and was registered as a sex offender.
What did Aziza al-Ahmadi write to Epstein?
Al-Ahmadi wrote in the email, emphasizing the sanctity of the cloth. ‘The black piece has been touched by at least one crore Muslims. Sunni, Shia and other Muslims.
