We might be out of January but the winter weather is still full steam ahead, which means cold, rain and plenty of nights spent staying cosy at home. So this month, rather than splurging on some trainers or a new going out dress, we’ve decided it’s time to invest in a pair of great slippers instead.
It might not be very glam, but the right pair of slippers will become one of your most-worn items in your wardrobe, particularly when trying to stay warm in the house. And if you’ve been eyeing up UGG’s Tasman II slippers but haven’t quite justified the splurge, allow us to introduce you to Marks & Spencer’s affordable alternative instead.

The new Suede Faux Fur Lined Mule Clog Slippers are £29.50 at M&S which means they’re £85.50 cheaper than the Tasman II slippers, which are priced at £115. The M&S slippers have a similar silhouette, with a clog-style slip-on design and a closed back to keep them snug and secure on your feet.
The insides are lined with a cosy faux fur that keeps your feet warm, and the outers are real suede which is durable and soft. There’s no patterned trim detail around the opening, but there is a blanket stitch trim down the front seams to give them a little bit of extra design detail.
We did spot a similar style that features a patterned trim at Moshulu, where the KIMOTO 2 Slip On Sheepskin Slippers are £65. They come in a chestnut brown colour, as well as four other shades including pink, plum, chocolate brown and grey.
Alternatively, Clarks’ Leno Cosy slippers are on sale for £24, down from £35, and have a traditional boat shoe-style design, with plush faux fur lining. The uppers are faux suede, rather than real, which keeps the price affordable and is great if you prefer vegan-friendly footwear.
However, Marks & Spencer’s Suede Faux Fur Lined Mule Clog Slippers come in both tan and chocolate brown colourways, or you can pick them up in leopard print (also £29.50) or cow print, which are slightly pricier at £33 and made from hair-on suede for a chic look. The slippers are also well-praised from shoppers who’ve gotten their hands on them.
One said: “Good fit (true to size), very comfortable and are stylish too.”
And another praised: “This my second pair of these lovely slippers (i replaced the previous ones after 2 years as the fur had worn out). So cosy and comfortable and the soles are hard wearing so I can pop out to the bins etc.”
One person who bought the Suede Faux Fur Lined Mule Clog Slippers did warn: “These are very nice, but I was a bit disappointed with the sizing. I looked at the reviews and it said true to size, but frankly I could’ve done with at least a 4 1/2 to be more comfortable. If I hadn’t worn them I would have returned them.”
With someone else agreeing on the sizing: “Bought my usual size and they are a very snug fit. I’m actually finding them quite uncomfortable.”
Although another countered: “Did come up quite tight but once broken in we’re fine.”
Whilst a third simply praised: “These mules are beyond cosy, it’s like walking in a warming cloud.”
