A period drama that viewers have described as "absorbing" and "intoxicating" is presently available to stream for free - though fans eager to watch have only a limited window to do so.
Sofia Coppola's biographical film Priscilla arrived on BBC iPlayer almost a year ago, and there's now just one month remaining to view it before it leaves the platform.
Based on Priscilla Presley's memoir, Elvis and Me, the film chronicles her life with rock and roll icon Elvis Presley away from the public eye, from their first encounter through to their stormy marriage. Their relationship has remained a contentious subject given that Priscilla was merely 14 when she met the then-24 year old Elvis, reports the Mirror.
Cailee Spaeny takes on the role of Priscilla, earning a Best Actress nomination at the Golden Globes for her performance, whilst Jacob Elordi plays Elvis. According to BBC iPlayer's synopsis: "Fourteen-year-old schoolgirl Priscilla Beaulieu is accustomed to the unsettled life of an army family.
"Invited to a party at Elvis Presley's house as he carries out his military service in Germany, the shy teenager catches his eye and is gradually drawn into a strange and unhealthy co-dependent life."
At the time of writing, the 2023 film boasts an impressive 84 per cent critics' rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences gave it a more modest 64 per cent score on average.
One enthusiastic reviewer praised: "A tender, poignant drama and an excellent continuation of her muted but no less intoxicating style. It shows [Sofia] Coppola at her most understanding as she presents a complex, multi-faceted love story where two lovers drift apart."
Another cinema-goer remarked: "This was probably the most visually stunning movie I've seen," whilst a third enthused: "Great movie! Very engrossing - felt like I was right there with her every step of the way. The chemistry between the lead actors was mesmerizing."
A fourth commented: "A really we done biopic about Priscilla. Truly shows how even in a house full of people she was still lonely. Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi work really we as Elvis and Priscilla, especially with the height difference."
Yet one more sceptical audience member observed: "Truth be told, this film is little more than the story of a relationship between child and the childish. A rather tedious, and in parts, even a queasy watch, even for the Elvis fan."
Priscilla is now streaming for free on BBC iPlayer. For the latest showbiz, TV, movie and streaming news, go to the new **Everything Gossip** website.
