Pat Cummins the Australian pace spearhead explained that his T20 World Cup exit happened because of his need to recover completely before the upcoming Test season which he wants to participate in every match.
The team captain who played both Test and ODIs was unable to participate in the T20 World Cup because his back injury remained unhealed at that time so Ben Dwarshuis took his place.
Cummins has battled his back injury since Australia’s West Indies excursion in July although he currently feels “really good” he chose not to participate in the tournament which begins on February 7 after he received results from his medical scan.
The Australian Associated Press reported that Cummins expressed his disappointment about the situation because he felt good and experienced a minor problem which made him miss his performance window.
The bone required a complete eight weeks of healing time before our rehabilitation process needed to start according to our assessment after the Adelaide Test match.
The doctors determined that my body required extra time to heal which resulted in extended project timelines.
Australia will begin their Test matches in August when they face Bangladesh in two Tests which will take place in Darwin and Mackay and then they will proceed to South Africa for a Test and ODI series in September.
The Australians will first face New Zealand in their home matches before they go to India for a five-Test Border-Gavaskar series which will end with the pink-ball Test match against England at the MCG in March.
The schedule includes an away Ashes series followed by the ODI World Cup and a possible World Test Championship final at Lord’s which will occur in June.
The 32-year-old fast bowler explained that their team believes the first six months of the year provide an appropriate period for them to limit their cricket activities which they expect to increase in the upcoming matches.
The right solution will resolve your problem because it prevents you from needing to concern yourself with the issue which allows you to participate in Test matches.
“You need to handle your current situation with carefulness because any mistakes will create ongoing problems for you to solve” he explained.
Cummins intends to recover his health before the Indian Premier League begins on March 26 when he will assume his position as captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The back pain will determine our activities according to his statement. The doctor will perform another scan in a few weeks which will evaluate his condition and if the results show improvement he will start rehabilitation with gradual physical activity.
“I find T20 matches easier to prepare for than Test matches which explains why I almost participated in this World Cup.
Australia faced challenges before their T20 World Cup matches because they lost all three matches against Pakistan but Cummins maintained hope about Australia winning the tournament.
The players returned from Pakistan after two disappointing matches because they lost their matches. The team members who played in the Big Bash League and two World Cup returnees who recovered from injuries now join the team.
