The Nepal government has withdrawn the controversial Social Media Bill-2025. Last year, the then government fell due to massive opposition from Gen Z.
Last year, the then PM K.P. Sharma Oli had banned 26 apps including Facebook and Instagram saying that they were not following the local rules.
But these apps were the source of income for thousands of people, so the youth rebelled against the ban. Besides, the issue of corruption of leaders was also added to it.
As a result, the Oli government fell. Now PM Sushila Karki's government has decided to cancel this bill, which has also been approved by the cabinet.
