Aadhaar is only proof of identity - Government
It is important to note that upon a person's death, it is necessary to deactivate their Aadhaar number to prevent potential identity fraud or unauthorized use of such Aadhaar numbers for obtaining welfare benefits. Although the government has repeatedly clarified that Aadhaar is only proof of identity and not citizenship, this single document is now required for almost all government and non-government work, so you should take care to keep it secure. For this purpose, the government has also launched a new Aadhaar app, about which you can learn more here:
UIDAI Launched New Aadhaar App on January 28
UIDAI has launched a new Aadhaar app, which is completely different from mAadhaar. It offers several features, including multiple profiles and a biometric lock. Many tasks can be performed from home using the new Aadhaar app without visiting a center. This eliminates the need to carry your physical Aadhaar card, and you can download this app from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The new Aadhaar app allows you to add your own Aadhaar profile along with the profiles of up to five other family members. This means you can link the Aadhaar numbers of five family members to a single mobile number. Through this app, you can change the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card from the comfort of your home, without having to visit an Aadhaar center.
UIDAI has incorporated advanced security features in this app, allowing for QR-based verification. This eliminates the need to physically show your Aadhaar card and prevents anyone from accessing someone else's Aadhaar information. It offers a high level of security. The new app will soon also offer the facility to change your email address and name. This app works with a SIM binding feature, meaning the app can only be registered with the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card. If there is a different SIM card in your phone, the app will not work.
