Sir Keir Starmer gave a grovelling speech today in which he said "sorry" five times as the fallout of the Lord Mandelson scandal continues. The Prime Minister said: "I am sorry .... sorry for having believed Mandelson's lies and appointing him."
Speaking on the documents relating to Lord Mandelson's appointment as US ambassador, Sir Keir added: "I wanted to release them yesterday, in fact... but the police have advised that releasing certain information now could risk prejudicing a future investigation or legal process. And however frustrating that is from my personal POV, I will not take any steps - however tempting, however popular - that risks justice for victims. Because this is not, and must never become, a political game."
