Aaron George Shines in U19 World Cup Semifinal, Leading India to Final

In a remarkable performance, India’s U19 cricketer Aaron George made headlines with his outstanding century during the U19 World Cup 2026 semifinal against Afghanistan, held at the Harare Sports Club on February 5. Under the leadership of Ayush Mhatre, the Indian team clinched a spot in the finals with a convincing seven-wicket victory, setting up a clash with England on February 6.


Chasing a target of 311 runs, India successfully completed the chase in just 41.1 overs, finishing with 59 balls to spare. Aaron George emerged as the standout player, scoring 115 runs off 104 balls, which included 15 boundaries and 2 sixes, achieving a strike rate of 110.58 and playing a crucial role in steering India towards victory.


Key Contributions from Teammates

In addition to George's stellar performance, Vaibhav Suryavanshi contributed significantly with a score of 68, while captain Ayush Mhatre added 62 runs. Vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra also played a vital role, scoring 38 runs off 47 balls, helping the team secure their semifinal win and advance to the final against England.


Aaron George: The Semifinal Star

Aaron George not only showcased his batting skills but also demonstrated composure at the crease, blending patience with strategic aggression. After the dismissals of Suryavanshi and Mhatre, George took charge, ensuring the innings remained steady and the required run rate was manageable.

Aaron George's Background

Originally from Kottayam, Kerala, Aaron George currently resides in Hyderabad with his parents, Easo Varghese and Preethi. His father, a former district-level cricketer, now serves as a sub-inspector with the Hyderabad Police, while his mother is a mathematics teacher.


Aaron began his cricket journey at a young age, first playing in his living room before joining a cricket camp at the age of seven. He later trained at a cricket academy under Biju Nair, showcasing his talent and dedication to the sport.


Aaron's Rise in Cricket

Aaron George has represented Hyderabad in both Under-16 and Under-19 teams. He gained recognition after scoring an unbeaten 303 against Bihar in the 2022-23 Vijay Merchant Trophy. He continued to excel in subsequent seasons, leading Hyderabad to its first Vinoo Mankad Trophy title in 2025.


His impressive performances in domestic cricket earned him a place in the U19 World Cup 2026, where he initially faced challenges but ultimately solidified his status as a key player with his century against Afghanistan.
