Amid constant reports of shop closures and companies entering administration, it's good news for the local community of Hounslow as the town's Post Office branch is set to reopen at the end of this month.

The announcement was made on the London Borough of Hounslow's website, with the leader of the council, Councillor Shantau Rajawat, noting the importance of the high street branch to local residents. The original branch closed in November 2024, and causing insignificance to local services and residents, particularly older ones. However, a new one will be opening on February 26 at 173 High Street, Hounslow, TW3 1QL.

Councillor Shantanu Rajawat said: "I'm pleased that the Post Office will return to Hounslow High Street on Thursday, February 26. I know how important this service is to residents and local businesses, and how much it has been missed.

"Many people have raised this with me directly, and I understand the impact its closure has had. While it has taken time to get to this point, what matters most is that this vital service is now returning to Hounslow High Street with longer opening hours to better support our community."

According to the Post Office website, services will be accessed via a "low-screen open-plan, modern serving point". It added that the new branch will be adapted, including the layout, fixtures and fittings, to accommodate the Post Office till if necessary.

As well as the anticipated reopening, customers will be able to benefit from extended hours, introduced to improve access to the Post Office for the local community.

The branch will be open Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm and on Saturday and Sundays from 9am to 5pm.

Cllr Rajawt added: "I welcome the Post Office's commitment to bringing this service back. As a Council, we will continue to listen to residents and work with partners to protect important local services and support thriving, welcoming town centres."

The Post Office will open from 1pm on the first day, then follow the new extended hours.
