Desk: A big change is being seen in the cab service industry of the country today. Bharat Taxi App, the country’s first co-operative taxi service, is being officially launched today to challenge private platforms like Ola and Uber. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will launch this app in an event organized at Vigyan Bhawan. Initially this service will be available in Delhi-NCR, after which it will be started in major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai in a phased manner.

The most important feature of Bharat Taxi is its driver-ownership model. While in existing cab platforms huge commission is charged from the drivers, in Bharat Taxi no commission will be taken from the drivers. Here drivers are not just providers, but will also become co-owners of the platform. This model is being considered a big step towards financially empowering the drivers.

Every driver joining this platform will be given 5 shares in the cooperative organization, through which he will directly hold the stake in this organization. Drivers only have to pay a minimum membership fee. Which they will be able to pay on daily, weekly or monthly basis as per their convenience. This will make it easier for drivers working on a small scale to join as well.

Bharat Taxi claims that its fares can be up to 30 percent less than the current market rates. There will be no system of surge pricing in this app. This means that passengers will not be charged extra fare even during rain, traffic or peak hours. The fare will be fixed in advance and passengers will get complete transparency.

On Bharat Taxi app, passengers will get the option of various services like bike, auto and car. With this, people will be able to easily choose rides as per their budget and needs, which will make everyday travel more economical and convenient.

Bharat Taxi has also been linked to the social safety of drivers. Every driver associated with this platform will be given personal accident insurance of Rs 5 lakh and family health insurance of Rs 5 lakh. Apart from this, loan facility on easy installments will also be made available in future under the Multi-State Co-operative Society Act, so that drivers will be able to become self-reliant by purchasing their own vehicle.

More than 3 lakh drivers have joined the Bharat Taxi platform since its inception on June 6, 2025, while more than 1 lakh users have already registered on the app. These figures clearly show that even before its launch, this initiative is getting good support from the people.
