Gardeners' World star Monty Don was flooded with support as he shared that he needed to "cheer himself up" after a "miserable day". The 70-year-old fan favourite posted a series of throwback snaps showing his glorious garden to Instagram when he opened up on his feelings.
He shared that he was waiting for nicer times in four months, when the British weather finally picks up. "I don't do this often," he admitted, "as I try and use this space to share my daily experience. But today has been so grey, so grim, so thoroughly miserable that I am cheering myself up - and hopefully you too - by looking back to last June, in the knowledge that this will all come again in just 4 months time." The images showed healthy shrubbery and trees full of vibrant greens, whites and the odd dash of pink. Some of his 1.3m social media followers were appreciative of the post, with one fan commenting: "Beautiful. We all need a bit of this at the moment - so wet & grey."
Another supportively added: "Oh Monty. I feel that down to my bones. Please know how very much you are loved by so very many of us. Lean on me, friend and we'll get through this one day at a time."
A third wrote: "This winter is just relentless. Thank you for sharing. As someone else said, the bulbs are popping up and on the rare day when the sun shines, it is possible to believe that spring is close xx."
"Sending lots of love and light on behalf of the millions of folks whose lives you make a bit brighter," another said. "Chin up, Mr. Don- Spring will be here soon and there will be plenty of reasons to cheer."
His legions of loyal followers have been doing their best to keep Monty feeling optimistic following the heartbreaking loss of his beloved pooch Peggy.
He shared that the daschund dog died just "short of her 16th birthday", making her the third pet of Monty's to have died over the past six years, after his golden retrievers Nigel and Nell both died within three years of each other.
In an emotional post, Monty revealed: "She died as she had lived, gently and without fuss. She was eccentric, quirky, infinitely gentle and loving and will be missed terribly. She is buried in the coppice alongside Nigel and Nell and the other dogs."
Monty has been a much-loved TV favourite since he became the lead presenter for the BBC flagship programme Gardeners' World between 2003 and 2008. He then resumed the role in 2011 and continues to front the show.
