Flagstaff. In the US, a helicopter of the Arizona Department of Public Safety crashed while monitoring a shooting incident in Flagstaff. The pilot and medical assistant policeman died in this accident.
This information was given in the official release of the department. Flagstaff is located in the northern part of Arizona and is the principal city of Coconino County. This city is situated at an altitude of about 7,000 feet.
A Ranger helicopter crew responded Wednesday night to assist the Flagstaff Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, department Sergeant Cameron Lee said in a statement, according to an official release. “Sadly, the helicopter crashed during the firing incident. The pilot and paramedic policeman died in the accident,” Lee said. Lee said the suspect did not suffer life-threatening injuries in the shooting and was taken into custody. At present the identity of the deceased has not been released.
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the helicopter (Bell 407) crashed near Flagstaff at about 10:15 pm and then caught fire, ABC News reported. Checking the registration number revealed that the helicopter was manufactured in 2004. The administration said the National Transportation Safety Board would be assisted in investigating the accident.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety will provide an update on the helicopter crash at a 10 a.m. news conference on Feb. 6, the release said. Department Director Colonel Jeffrey Glover will issue a statement at the press conference. This press conference will be held at the Flagstaff Police Department headquarters in Phoenix. During this time, Flagstaff Police Chief Sean Connolly will also address the media.
