Diplomacy –  Iran has launched a fresh round of diplomatic engagement by dispatching its foreign minister to Oman for nuclear-related discussions with the United States, signaling a renewed effort to resolve longstanding disputes through dialogue while safeguarding national interests.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has departed for Oman at the head of a senior diplomatic delegation. The visit is focused on nuclear negotiations with the United States, with Tehran emphasizing its intention to pursue a fair, respectful, and mutually acceptable outcome.

Official Confirmation of the Mission

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei shared details of the trip in a public statement, noting that Araghchi is leading the delegation to Muscat to conduct direct nuclear talks with the American side. According to Baghaei, Iran is approaching the discussions with confidence and clarity, seeking an agreement that preserves the country’s national rights and strategic interests.

He underlined that Iran’s participation in the talks is rooted in a firm diplomatic posture rather than concession, stressing that the delegation is mandated to defend Tehran’s position while remaining open to constructive engagement.

Iran’s Stated Approach to Negotiations

Baghaei outlined Tehran’s broader strategy, explaining that the negotiations are intended to reach an understanding that is just, dignified, and acceptable to all parties involved. He said Iran views diplomacy as a legitimate path to resolving disputes, provided it is conducted on equal footing and with mutual respect.

At the same time, the spokesperson acknowledged that past experiences continue to shape Iran’s outlook. He referred to earlier violations of commitments, episodes of military escalation in June, and foreign interventions earlier this year, describing them as reminders of why Iran remains cautious and insistent on protecting its sovereign rights.

Balancing Caution With Continued Engagement

Despite these concerns, Baghaei stressed that Iran does not intend to close the door on diplomacy. He said the country feels a responsibility to pursue every viable diplomatic opportunity that could advance the interests of the Iranian people and contribute to stability in the wider region.

He also expressed appreciation for neighboring and regional countries that have played a constructive role in facilitating the current process. In particular, Iran welcomed the efforts of Oman, which has a long history of mediating sensitive regional discussions.

Expectations From the United States

In his remarks, Baghaei voiced hope that the United States would engage in the talks with seriousness, realism, and a sense of responsibility. He suggested that progress would depend on whether both sides demonstrate a genuine commitment to reaching a balanced and sustainable agreement.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that any deal must be reciprocal and enforceable, reflecting lessons learned from previous diplomatic efforts that failed to deliver lasting results.

Timing and Venue of the Talks

Earlier this week, Araghchi himself provided additional details, announcing that the negotiations are scheduled to take place on Friday at around 10 a.m. in Muscat. He publicly thanked the Omani authorities for arranging the logistical and diplomatic framework required for the meetings.

Iran also confirmed that it had requested a change of venue from Istanbul to Oman. Officials explained that holding the talks on a strictly bilateral basis in Muscat would help ensure that discussions remain focused exclusively on nuclear issues, without external distractions.

As the delegation arrives in Oman, attention will be closely watched on whether this round of talks can narrow differences and lay groundwork for a more stable diplomatic path forward.
