In the Bihar Assembly, a heated exchange took place between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav regarding the state's political climate. During the budget session, Kumar launched a fierce attack on Yadav, questioning how much money he allegedly offered to six legislators to topple the government in 2024. The Chief Minister demanded to know, 'How much did you pay those six legislators? Where did that money come from? Did you extort it from those who were already aligned with you?'
Anant Singh Takes Oath Amid Controversy
Earlier this week, Anant Singh, a legislator from the Janata Dal (United) representing Mokama, took his oath in the Bihar Assembly. Before taking the oath, he sought blessings from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by touching his feet. Singh had been unable to take the oath earlier due to his imprisonment following his arrest in the Dularchand Yadav murder case on November 1, 2025. He arrived at the Assembly via ambulance from jail and stated to reporters, 'I am innocent, and I will receive justice.'
Singh's Electoral Victory Amid Legal Troubles
Despite being incarcerated, Anant Singh secured victory against RJD candidate Veena Devi, the wife of Surajbhan Singh, by a margin of 28,206 votes in the Mokama constituency. Veena Devi received 63,210 votes. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma reported that Singh was arrested by Patna police prior to the commencement of voting in connection with the murder case of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of Jan Suraj. Singh was apprehended alongside two associates, Manikant Thakur and Ranjit Ram, and was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Patna.
