The work of expansion of Gorakhpur Airport in Uttar Pradesh will now progress rapidly, for which local MP Ravi Kishan had also raised the demand in the Parliament and now the green signal has been given on it.
Gorakhpur: The plan to expand Gorakhpur Airport in Uttar Pradesh has received formal approval from the Central Government. The Civil Aviation Ministry has given green signal to the proposal for construction of a new terminal building, which is expected to give a new impetus to air connectivity and regional development in Purvanchal. This decision has been taken after the parliamentary demand of local MP and actor Ravi Kishan.
While giving information in the Parliament, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol said that the proposal for construction of a new terminal equipped with modern facilities at Gorakhpur Airport has been approved. For this, the state government has already completed the acquisition of 42.14 acres of land from the Indian Air Force, paving the way for the implementation of the project.
Continuous increase in passengers and cargo
According to the ministry, Gorakhpur Airport has recorded a significant increase in passenger traffic in the last few years. According to recent data, annual passenger numbers have crossed the lakh mark, underscoring the need for expansion of the airport. Additionally, cargo transportation has also seen significant growth.
The increasing transportation of agricultural products, industrial goods and e-commerce logistics has made Gorakhpur an important center of regional trade. Experts believe that with the new terminal the cargo infrastructure will be further improved, which will directly benefit local traders and farmers.
Direct connectivity to major metros
The government also clarified that under the existing flight schedule, Gorakhpur airport is already connected to major metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. After airport expansion:
- The number of flights is likely to increase.
- Landing of big planes will be possible.
- Domestic and potentially international connectivity in the future will be boosted.
With this, not only Gorakhpur but the people of the entire Purvanchal region will get better air facilities and travel time will be reduced.
Ravi Kishan raised the issue in Parliament
Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan had been demanding airport expansion for a long time. He raised this issue several times in Parliament and stressed the need for infrastructure expansion in view of the increasing number of passengers. After getting the approval, Ravi Kishan expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Civil Aviation Ministry.
He said that strong air connectivity is very important for the overall development of Gorakhpur and Purvanchal. He also said in airport detail:

- Tourism activities will increase.
- New employment opportunities will be created.
- Investment will be attracted in the area.

Apart from this, medical tourism, education and religious tourism (proximity to Kushinagar, Gorakhnath Temple, Lumbini) will also get huge benefits.
