Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed what head coach Arne Slot told the dressing room that helped boost the club’s recent form. The Reds are currently preparing to face Manchester City in the Premier League and go into the game having scored 10 goals in their previous two matches.

Slot’s side are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table after a 4-1 win against Newcastle United in their previous fixture. This followed a 6-0 victory over Qarabag in the Champions League, which booked Liverpool a place in the last-16 of the competition by finishing in the top eight of the league phase standings.

Liverpool are now preparing to City team that beat them 3-0 in the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium back in November, with eight points separating them between sixth and second in the Premier League table as things stand. Mac Allister played a key role in both of the wins against Newcastle and Qarabag for Liverpool, playing the full 90 minutes in each fixture.

"We feel like we are in a good moment, in a much better moment than the beginning of the season," Mac Allister said in an interview with Liverpool’s club website.

"We are improving as a team – which is the most important thing – and now we're looking forward to this amazing game. The manager had a really good meeting where he said that we needed to improve in both boxes. That's what we wanted and I think we showed it in the last two games.

"But we were more aggressive, we pressed a little bit more. That's what we want and that's what we want to get and be consistent on that. I think it's going to be key.

"We have many players that are injured, so it's not that easy, but we are getting there. I think we are all happy with our last two performances.

"We played against two teams that were a little bit more aggressive and tried to build from the back, which is for us maybe better. We are in a good moment but we need to keep working and keep improving."
