News India Live, Digital Desk: The world had not yet completely emerged from the shadow of Corona that Nipah virus (NiV) has once again knocked in the neighboring country Bangladesh. Recently there has been a stir after the death of a person. The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an alert regarding this, because the fatality rate of this virus is shocking. How did the infection spread? According to health officials, the deceased had drunk raw date palm sap. It is believed that this juice was contaminated by ‘fruit bats’ (Phalbhakshi Chamgadar), which are natural carriers of Nipah virus. WHO warning: Why is it dangerous? Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus, that is, it spreads from animals to humans. According to WHO: Its mortality rate is between 40% to 75%, which makes it extremely fatal. Currently, there is no specific vaccine or treatment available for it. It can also spread from one person to another by coming in direct contact with an infected person. Do not ignore these symptoms. Symptoms of Nipah virus start appearing within 4 to 14 days of infection. If you or anyone around you has these problems, contact a doctor immediately: Initial symptoms: High fever, headache, cough and sore throat. Severe symptoms: Severe respiratory distress. Dangerous conditions: Confusion, seizures and ultimately coma (Encephalitis). Prevention is the only treatment: Do’s and don’ts? The government and doctors have issued strict instructions for the public: Raw Do not drink juice: Do not consume the juice of dates plucked directly from the trees. Checking fruits: Do not eat fruits that have fallen on the ground or have been gnawed by birds. Hygiene: Wash fruits thoroughly before eating and clean hands with soap. Keep distance: Avoid contact with infected people or suspected animals (especially pigs and bats).
