In an unfortunate event veteran Nepali actor Sunil Thapa celebrated for his commanding screen presence passed away at the age of 68. This report sent shockwaves through the industry. As per reports he took his last breath at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali Kathmandu after his health suddenly deteriorated. The doctor suggested that reportedly the cause of death was cardiac arrest; an official medical confirmation is still awaited. A Four-Decade Legacy In Cinema Born in Dang Nepal Sunil Thapa carved an extraordinary career that made him one of the most recognisable faces in the country’s film industry. Interestingly Thapa made his debut with a Hindi movie Ek Duuje Ke Liye in 1981 and later appeared in several Bollywood projects during the early phase of his career. However it was his work in Nepali films that firmly established his legacy and turned him into a household name. Over the years Thapa featured in more than 300 Nepali films. Among his most memorable performances was the character “Rate Kaila” in the classic film Chino. He portrayed the role of both a hero and a villain which further spoke about his versatility as a performer. Recognition Beyond Borders Besides his presence in Nepal the actor gained recognition among Indian audiences as well notably through his role in the biographical sports drama Mary Kom where he portrayed the celebrated boxer’s coach. His performance further extended his reach to a wider audience. Industry Mourns A Huge Loss News of his passing has sent shockwaves in the industry and among fans alike and triggered an outpouring of grief from fans colleagues and members of the entertainment fraternity across Nepal and India. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced once his family members arrive in Kathmandu. While Sunil Thapa may no longer be among us he will always stay in our thoughts with his legacy.
