In Hindu religion, great importance is given to the calculation of time or Muhurta before starting any auspicious work. According to astrology, Bhadra and Panchak are two periods which are generally not considered auspicious. Experts say that mistakes made during these periods may prove costly in the future or may cause hindrances in work, hence it is wise to be cautious during this period.
According to mythological beliefs, Bhadra is the daughter of Lord Surya and sister of Shani Dev. Being harsh by nature, when Bhadra influences the earth, auspicious activities like marriage, mundan or house warming are prohibited. At the same time, Panchak is a group of five special constellations, Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Purvabhadrapada, Uttarabhadrapada and Revati. It is said that the energy during this time is such that any work can be repeated five times, hence special rules have been made to avoid repetition of bad deeds or inauspicious events.
