Liverpool's upcoming summer signing Jeremy Jacquethas added to the Reds' injury worries after picking up a painful shoulder issue in his latest outing.

The Reds sealed an agreement to sign the Rennes defender in the closing days of the January window. That move will become official in the summer.

Liverpool will hope he arrives fit, with Jacquet having seemingly picked up a shoulder injury in his most recent outing for Rennes. The Frenchman was named in the Ligue 1 side's starting line-up vs Lens and was replaced just before the 70-minute mark, clutching his arm.

Rennes eventually ended up losing 3-1 to Lens on Saturday evening despite having taken the lead through Esteban Lepaul. Former Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Edouard levelled matters, with Ruben Aguilar turning the game on its head just moments before being sent off.

Ex-Newcastle wideman Allan Saint-Maximin then put Lens in front, having signed for the French club in January. Liverpool will certainly be keeping a close eye on Jacquet and his potential fitness.

Speaking about the signing of the defender earlier this week, Arne Slot said: "Very pleasing, of course. He's a very big talent and maybe even more than talent but we speak about talent because of his age.

"Second, because we weren't the only one interested in him so it's a big compliment to the people working really hard to sign players.

"Such a big talent and another example of the model we're using at this club -- young, very talented players sometimes at the start of their careers or sometimes already a little bit a few years into their career but always players that are young and can improve us in the short term but also definitely in the long term.

"We've signed a lot of them recently and like I've said many times in the mid-long term future of this club, and even the short term, is in a very good place."

Jacquet's injury comes at a time where Liverpool are dealing with their own defensive crisis. Having seen Trent Alexander-Arnold leave for Real Madrid in the summer, his replacement Jeremie Frimpong has missed the last few games with an issue.

Conor Bradley is also out with a long-term knee injury. Giovanni Leoni is also sidelined until at least next season, while Joe Gomez continues to struggle with his fitness.
