In a horrific early-morning accident on February 7, 2026, a speeding container truck mowed down passengers on the Yamuna Expressway near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, killing six people and seriously injuring at least one.

The incident occurred around 2:45 am near Milestone 88 under the jurisdiction of Surir police station. A bus going from Delhi to Kanpur had stopped for a while on the roadside so that some passengers could get down – it is said that they had got down to freshen up or take a break. At the same time, the truck driver allegedly lost control, causing the truck to collide with the bus and crush the disembarked passengers standing nearby.

In this horrific collision, six people died on the spot, their bodies were scattered on the road. The injured man, identified as Amar Dubey, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is said to be out of danger. Four deceased have been identified: Sonu of Auraiya, Devesh of Basti, Aslam of Kannauj and Santosh of Prem Nagar, Delhi. Efforts are on to identify the remaining two.

Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar described the incident: The bus stopped on the roadside, the passengers got down, and the truck crushed them. District Magistrate C.P. Singh blamed the driver’s negligence and promised strict action against those responsible. An eyewitness said that as soon as the truck suddenly collided, people started running here and there in fear.

Police immediately reached the spot, conducted a rescue operation, informed the families of the victims, registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the cause, including possible speeding or negligence. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of this tragedy.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns over road safety on the expressway, where a brief stop amid fast-moving traffic can prove fatal. Officials urge drivers to use caution and avoid stopping without permission.
