New York: Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the globally known rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47.

The band said in an official statement that Arnold had been battling stage four kidney cancer for the past few months. He passed away on Saturday after treatment failed to improve his condition.

Arnold had publicly revealed in May that he was diagnosed with cancer. The disease had also spread to his lungs, forcing the band to cancel its tours last year. Band members said he died peacefully in the presence of his loved ones.

3 Doors Down was formed in Mississippi in 1995. Arnold wrote the song Kryptonite when he was just 15 years old, while sitting in a mathematics class. The song brought the band international recognition and earned it a Grammy nomination.

The band’s debut album, The Better Life, sold over six million copies worldwide. In 2003, the band received a second Grammy nomination for the song When I’m Gone. Other popular tracks included Loser, Duck and Run, and Be Like That, which featured in the film American Pie 2.

Arnold also performed at the inauguration ceremony of then US President Donald Trump in 2017.

Several personalities from the music industry expressed condolences over his death.
