Fans of crime dramas have had plenty to choose from recently, but many viewers say they are still searching for something to fill the gap between weekly episodes of their favourite shows. And there is one series in particular that has everything from sharp humour and clever storytelling to twist-filled cases. And for people who enjoy Sherlock or High Potential, it's the perfect filler.

It's the sort of show that keeps you guessing, leans heavily on character-driven mysteries and builds tension without overcomplicating things. Some viewers say they tried it out of curiosity and ended up binge-watching far more than they expected. The Closer is an American police procedural starring Kyra Sedgwick as LAPD Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson.

It aired from 2005 to 2012 and became one of cable's highest-rated dramas during its run.

Sedgwick plays a CIA-trained interrogator who specialises in obtaining confessions, giving the series its title.

The Closer was created by James Duff and produced by Warner Bros Television. It led directly to the spin-off Major Crimes, which continued the storyline after the original series ended.

Across its seven seasons, the show tackled complex cases while exploring ethical questions, police culture and the personal challenges faced by its characters.

Until the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2011, Kyra Sedgwick had made history as being the only actress in the history of television to be nominated for an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild award every year that the show aired in the eligibility period.
