Raipur: Weeks ahead of the March 31 deadline set by the central government to root out Naxalism from the country, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday chaired an important security review meeting in Raipur. In this high-level meeting, the ongoing anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh were thoroughly reviewed and future strategies were discussed.

The importance of this meeting, held in a hotel in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, increases by the fact that apart from Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma (who also holds the Home Department), the Union Home Secretary, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director and Director Generals of several Central Armed Police Forces also participated in it.

Positive results of strategy: Shah

After the meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah shared the information on social media platform X. He said that the government’s multi-pronged strategy is yielding good results.

He also said in another post that Chhattisgarh, which was once considered a bastion of Naxalite violence, has now become synonymous with development under the double engine government of BJP.

Officials from many states participated in the meeting

The seriousness of this meeting can be gauged from the fact that officials not only from Chhattisgarh but also from neighboring states were present in it. Chiefs of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) along with senior officials from Odisha, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Telangana also participated as these states share borders with the Naxal-hit Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Special attention on Bastar, success visible in figures

Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division, which comprises seven districts, has long been the strongest stronghold of the Maoists. However, in the last few years the security forces have intensified their operations here. According to data released by the police, more than 500 Naxalites have been killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh since January 2024 alone. Around 1,900 Naxalites were arrested during the same period and more than 2,500 have surrendered. These operations have significantly reduced militant activities in the area.
