Keir Starmer has faced intense scrutiny as further revelations about Lord Peter Mandelson come to light. Starmer appointed Mandelson as the UK's ambassador to the US, even after he continued a friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein following his conviction for soliciting sex from a minor in 2008. Starmer claims he was unaware of the extent of his friendship with the disgraced financier, issuing a public apology to Epstein's victims for "believing Mandelson's' lies".
Police raided Mandelson's homes as part of an investigation into allegations that he leaked sensitive information to Epstein, while it was confirmed that the Labour politician received personal approval for a £4m loan from the paedophile. Things are only getting worse for Starmer as Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy has now claimed that he warned him about Mandelson before his appointment as ambassador.
Ben Leo shared the breaking update on GB News, starting by showing footage of Lammy previously claiming Mandelson is a "man of considerable expertise" and "the right man" as the UK's ambassador to the US.
The presenter was joined by former Conservative MP Louise Mensch, who responded to Lammy "throwing Keir Starmer under the bus".
She raged: "What I find so contemptible is this is a guy who has failed at the Foreign Office and Keir Starmer threw him a lifeline, made him deputy prime minister and what happened? He throws Keir Starmer under the bus as soon as he can.
"If David Lammy has got any fantasies about becoming prime minister he should set them aside now. I find it hilarious, this horrible list of who might actually replace Keir. When all you want to do is get rid of Keir Starmer and then you have to say, 'Shall we hold tight to nurse for fear of something worse'."
In a brutal blow to Starmer, friends of Lammy confirmed to The Telegraph that he had not been in favour of bringing the 'Prince of Darkness' back into government because of his links to Epstein.
He is the first Cabinet minister to break openly with Starmer, whose premiership seems to be hanging in the balance over the Mandelson scandal.
Lammy was reportedly in favour of extending the term of Dame Karen Pierce as ambassador as she was well-connected with US President Donald Trump's inner circle.
It has been reported that former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner was also against the appointment of Mandelson. Those close to the prime minister say he is "devastated" and debating whether to continue as the scandal continues to escalate.
