Manipal: The eighth edition of the Manipal Marathon, organised by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), was held at the KMC Greens ground on Sunday.
MAHE Pro-Chancellor Dr H.S. Ballal flagged off the event. More than 20,000 participants took part in the marathon. Members of the winning Indian team of the Women’s T20 Blind World Cup were also present. Over 100 international athletes participated in the event.
The marathon was conducted under the theme “Run for a Green and Sustainable Future”. The event featured five categories — 42 km full marathon, 21 km half marathon, 10 km run, 5 km run and a 3 km fun run.
Professional runners, students, fitness enthusiasts and people of all age groups took part in the event. Athletes from Dubai, England, Ethiopia, Germany, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the United States, along with participants from different parts of India, competed in the marathon.
After the race, several programmes were organised at KMC Greens. Special zones for fitness activities, entertainment events and food stalls were set up at the venue. Runners, their family members and spectators gathered to enjoy the event atmosphere.
Prizes worth over Rs 25 lakh were announced for the winners.
