New Delhi: In an incident which has raised serious questions about the breach of professional ethics, a female employee in an HDFC Bank branch in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur allegedly got involved in a heated argument with a customer.
Bank employee hurls caste-based threat
A video on social media shows that the employee, Aastha Singh, hurling cast-based abuses at the customer. The incident has triggered widespread outrage over the alleged unprofessionalism displayed by the employee who showed a caste-based arrogance.
In the bank branch situated at the city’s Panki area, Singh allegedly threatened the customer by violently pointing a laptop at him. She reportedly said, “I am a Thakur, don’t mess with me.” The remark has been slammed by netizens as it was laced with caste-based discrimination and unprofessional conduct.

Netizens react on the incident
Netizens have said that her conduct violated professional ethics and customer rights and many have called for strict disciplinary action against the employee. People have tagged the HDFC Bank, urging it to take action against the employee in question. One user, “Hope a case has been filed against her and departmental enquiry initiated. She should be removed for the job. Pathetic behaviour.” The bank is yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.
In another news, two bike-borne robbers wearing monkey caps shot at a man and looted Rs 6 lakh from him near the SBI branch on Koti’s Bank Street on January 31. The victim identified as Rasheed – a cash courier or depositor, arrived at an ATM near the SBI main office to deposit cash. The robbers allegedly followed him, attacked and shot at him, before snatching and running away with the money.
