Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued an advisory indicating that moderate to light morning fog is likely to persist in 14 districts of Tamil Nadu, including the capital Chennai and its neighbouring regions, until February 13. The recurring foggy conditions are expected to impact visibility during early morning hours, particularly in northern and western parts of the state.

Affected Districts: Light Fog in Chennai Zone, Moderate Fog in Western Belt

The forecast delineates two zones of impact:

• Light Fog: Expected in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, and Kanchipuram until the 13th.

• Moderate Fog: Predicted for Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Theni, and the Nilgiris during the same period.
  Additionally, light fog is possible in Salem, Erode, and Dindigul districts today and tomorrow.

Dry Spell and Rising Day Temperatures Expected

Alongside the fog alert, the Met department has forecast dry weather across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until February 15. Accompanying this dry spell, a slight rise in daytime maximum temperatures by up to 2 degrees Celsius is anticipated across the state. The combination of cool, foggy mornings and warmer, dry afternoons will characterise the weather pattern over the coming week.

Commuters, especially those travelling early in the morning through the affected districts, are advised to exercise caution, allow for extra travel time, and use fog lights where necessary. The conditions are typical for this time of the year, driven by moisture availability and calm winds during the night and early morning.
