During the budget session of Parliament, the atmosphere in the Lok Sabha became heated when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hit back at the allegations of the opposition. He strongly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that it was not his government but the Congress that had surrendered in the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The Finance Minister was answering the opposition’s questions during the discussion on the budget. Rejecting Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, he reminded of the previous tenure of Congress. He clarified that the country’s economic policies are strong and national interests will not be compromised under any circumstances.
Finance Minister lashed out at Bengal government, accused of cutting money
Nirmala Sitharaman also targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in her speech. On TMC’s allegations that there is nothing for Bengal in the budget, the Finance Minister said, “They are making false allegations. They cannot do anything in the interest of the people of Bengal and say that the Center has not given anything to Bengal.”
He further said that TMC leaders will have to be scolded in the Supreme Court, after which they will again blame the central government. Sitharaman sarcastically said that perhaps TMC leaders might be taking cut money, that is why they are saying such things. Meanwhile, Union Minister Giriraj Singh sitting behind him said, ‘BJP will come to Bengal.’
The Finance Minister also raised questions on a statement by Mamata Banerjee regarding the safety of women.
Gave confidence to farmers and businessmen
Apart from political attacks, the Finance Minister also presented the government’s side on issues to the country’s economy and farmers. He assured the House that there is no shortage of credit in the country. He said that a separate budget has been allocated for fertilizers, which will ensure that farmers do not face any kind of problem.
Sitharaman said that the government’s emphasis is not only on MSMEs but also on promoting old businesses established for decades. “The government is committed to promoting fisheries and animal husbandry. There are about 200 old clusters in the country, like in Ludhiana, Jalandhar or Kanpur, which have supported MSMEs. We have decided to fund these clusters, upgrade them and provide them with modern equipment,” he said.
