A 14-year-old boarding school student has sparked online buzz in China after being spotted at Guangzhou Station waiting for a train while hauling an oversized bundle of luggage strapped to his back.
He Zirui, an eighth grader at a secondary school in Guangzhou City, completed his first semester on Jan. 30 and traveled alone to the railway station to take a train home for Lunar New Year, local news outlet Guangzhou Daily said.
Photos of He standing at the station with a large bundle of luggage strapped to his back, including blankets and shoes tied neatly together, were shared widely on Chinese social media, according to the South China Morning Post.
“He packed so many things with ropes. Even as an adult, I would not be able to do that,” one online user commented.
“His packing skills are amazing. All that stuff did not fall along the way,” another said.

His family told Guangzhou Daily that he used skills learned at a military summer camp to fold blankets, pack shoes and tie the ropes.
“My roommates helped me by pressing the bags and I used the rope to bind them. It took us 20 minutes to pack them all,” He said.
His mother said she asked whether he needed his parents to accompany him but he said he could manage the trip alone. His father met him at a station four stops away.
He had previously practiced tying and bundling items at home.
“He planned to put heavy things in the suitcase, while carrying light ones on his back. He also thought of which one should be hung outside, how to connect them and where to fix the rope,” his mother said.
“He has a strong hands-on ability. We also intended to nurture his ability to do things by himself since he was very young. He could wash his socks at the age of two,” she added.
His story was published by the state media outlet the People’s Dailydrawing more than 500,000 likes.
