Bharat Bandh: Ten major central trade unions and farmers' organizations have jointly announced a Bharat Bandh. It is estimated that around 300 million employees may participate. According to reports, the trade unions are protesting against four new labor laws implemented in 2025. This is why the organizations have announced a nationwide strike on February 12th.
Bank employee organizations have supported the strike, including the All India Bank Employees Association, the All India Bank Officers' Association, and the Bank Employees Federation of India. These organizations have reiterated their demands for better working conditions and a five-day work week. Anticipating a potential impact on banking services, Bank of Baroda has informed the stock exchanges that work may be affected if employees participate in the strike.
Subsidiary Bank of India, the country's largest public sector bank, has also warned customers that some services may be affected to a limited extent during the strike. IDBI Bank has also received a formal notification from the unions. ATMs are expected to operate normally, but there may be delays in refilling them.
Will banks remain open?
Although organizations have called for a nationwide strike, the regulatory bank, the RBI, has not issued an official statement on the matter. Despite the strike, neither the banks nor the Reserve Bank of India has declared the day a holiday. This means branches will remain open, although there may be some disruptions. Customers may experience service delays at various bank branches. However, online banking and ATM services will remain operational.
