AI Impact Summit 2026: India will host the AI Impact Summit 2026 from February 16-20, 2026, at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. It is considered one of the world's largest technology events. Leaders, CEOs of major companies, startups, and researchers from around the world will participate in the summit. The India-AI Impact Summit 2026 will focus on how AI technology itself is capable of addressing the threats posed by deepfakes and AI.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, the government is making technology accessible to all. The focus is on democratizing the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) for global problems, ultimately improving lives across various sectors.

The development of India's foundational models aims to develop indigenous large language models or small language models based on Indian data sets. The summit will discuss healthcare, education, agriculture, climate, and governance. However, four (4) startups have been selected so far to build India's foundation models: Sarvam AI, Socket AI, Gyani AI, and Gan AI. The models developed under the IndiaAI Mission will be made open source to allow other startups to build applications on top of them, especially those specific to India.

AI against AI
A special session titled "AI for a Safer India: Combating AI-Enabled Cybercrime, Deepfakes, and Dark Web Threats" is being held on February 17th. Experts are discussing how deepfakes can be identified using AI tools.

Techno-Legal Approach
The Indian government is developing a framework that incorporates legal regulations as well as technological solutions, such as deepfake detection tools being developed at IITs.

Labeling and Watermarking
Under the government's new guidelines, social media platforms are being mandated to add permanent metadata or digital labels to AI-generated content to make it easier to identify.
