Loose Women star Ruth Langsford said, "I was heartbroken", as she opened up about her love life on Tuesday (February 17). The latest instalment of the popular ITV show was presented by Ruth, and also featured Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter and Oti Mabuse as they explored the day's leading stories.
During the programme, the panellists spoke about dating and whether it was okay to date a friend's ex-partner, after chef Gordon Ramsay confessed to "stealing" his wife Tana from one of his friends.
Reflecting on a pivotal moment in her love life, Ruth shared: "I remember going to a party when I was about 14, 15, and I really, really fancied this boy. [He was] blonde and gorgeous. I went to this party with my best friend, but I had to go back early because I was [at] boarding school.
"We were allowed out for a little while, but I had to leave early. Anyway, he and she, they walked me to the bus stop. I was like, 'He absolutely loves me. He loves me, because he's walking me to the bus stop'. He didn't kiss me goodbye and was like, 'Oh, bye, it's lovely to see you,' and I was standing on the back of the bus [waving]. That was Saturday."
Mobile phones weren't a thing at the time, so Ruth had to wait until Monday to get the low-down from her friend after the party.
She said: "[On] Monday, I [asked her], 'What did he say when I'd gone?' And she was a little bit, kind of, [quiet]... He'd declared his undying love for her. So, as soon as I was on the bus, he was like, 'Oh, thank God she's gone!' I was heartbroken."
Coleen then admitted: "I'm going through that on Celebs Go Dating, I've got to be honest. It's not good," before Ruth concluded: "Anyway, you know who you are if you're watching. It broke my heart."
This comes just days after Ruth shared her worries about intimacy with a potential new partner, following her separation from husband and former This Morning co-star Eamonn Holmes. While the Loose Women panel explored whether physical intimacy became more challenging in later years, Ruth acknowledged the "daunting" prospect of undressing in front of someone new.
"I don't think I'm a lights off girl, but I would certainly be anxious about a new partner and intimacy. Like being naked... I wouldn't just be like taking it all off," she said.
The 65-year-old presenter is understood to have remained single following her separation from husband Eamonn, 66, after 27 years as a couple and 14 years of marriage. A spokesperson told fans about their split back in 2024, with a short statement reading: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."
Eamonn is said to be in a new relationship with 44-year-old counsellor Katie Alexander, with the pair recently being photographed together at a holiday cottage in Harrogate.
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 12.30pm
