A shocking incident has been reported on the Ahmedabad–Gorakhpur Express, where a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) has been accused of sexually assaulting a young woman onboard the moving train.
According to the complaint, the woman was travelling without a ticket due to heavy rush and had boarded an AC coach. She alleged that the TTE took her to a cabin on the pretext of arranging a seat and then sexually assaulted her.
The complainant, who is preparing for recruitment into the armed forces, stated that she had travelled to Mau to appear for an NCC C-Certificate examination. While returning, she could not purchase a ticket because of overcrowding and boarded the AC compartment, expecting to pay the fine as per railway rules.
In her statement to the police, she said the TTE, identified as Rahul Kumar, questioned her about her name, address and exam details. After learning she was an NCC cadet preparing in Gorakhpur, he allegedly assured her of a seat and took her to his cabin in the First AC coach. She claimed he then locked the door from inside and assaulted her, threatening to take action against her for travelling without a ticket if she informed anyone.
The alleged incident occurred on Sunday night between Indara and Deoria stations. The woman raised an alarm and contacted Dial 112 to inform the police. By the time authorities were alerted, the accused TTE had reportedly deboarded the train at Deoria and fled.
Upon reaching Gorakhpur, the survivor filed a complaint at the Government Railway Police (GRP) station, and a case of rape has been registered. Authorities are investigating the matter and searching for the accused.
