He recorded his statement under section 313 of CrPC in the defamation case to his remarks on Home Minister Amit Shah. The next hearing of the case will now be held on March 9. Rahul Gandhi reached the court at around 11 am and stayed there for about half an hour. According to his lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla, Rahul pleaded innocent in the court and said that the allegations against him were politically motivated. “I am innocent in the entire matter. The allegations against me are politically motivated,” he said.

Time to present evidence till March 9

The court has given time till March 9 to present evidence. After recording the statement, Rahul Gandhi left for Lucknow along with Congress State President Ajay Rai and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari. From there he is scheduled to return to Delhi. It is noteworthy that earlier Rahul Gandhi could not appear in the hearing scheduled on January 19, after which the court had fixed February 20 as the next date.

Who had filed the case?

This defamation case is of October 2018. BJP leader Vijay Mishra of Hanumanganj area of ​​Sultanpur had filed a complaint in the court. It is alleged that during an election rally in Karnataka in August 2018, Rahul Gandhi had made objectionable remarks against Amit Shah, who was the national president of BJP at that time. The complaint said that while questioning BJP’s claim of honesty, Rahul had said that the party president was accused in a murder case. However, in February 2024, Sultanpur Court granted bail to Rahul Gandhi in this case. Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi reached Lucknow from Delhi on Friday morning and from there went to Sultanpur Court by road. State Congress President Ajay Rai said that Rahul himself is following the legal process by appearing in the court.
