A glamorous British TV personality with a huge online following is at the centre of a chilling police probe after being arrested on suspicion of trying to poison her own husband, reports The Sun. Amanda Jeffrey, 45, was detained by Spanish police in Majorca on Wednesday (February 18) following allegations she laced a drink with powerful tranquillisers in an alleged murder bid. The arrest came after Jeffrey's businessman husband reported to police that he believed he had been deliberately poisoned inside the couple's home on the island.

The influencer, who regularly appears on Spanish talk shows, has built a sizeable public profile, boasting nearly 400,000 followers on Instagram, around 60,000 on Facebook and more than 6,700 subscribers on YouTube. Online, she describes herself as a "communicator, teacher and academic" and is well known for promoting the English language abroad. Police sources say the alleged poisoning incident took place on January 10. According to the man's statement, he began to feel seriously unwell after drinking a glass of wine prepared by Jeffrey at their home.

He told officers that his wife had insisted he drink alcohol she claimed to have received as a gift from a hotel.

He alleges she then changed his wine glass, telling him it was too strong for her, and handed him a mixed drink instead. Despite noticing a strange taste, he drank it. Shortly afterwards, his condition rapidly deteriorated.

Reports say the man managed to alert emergency services before losing consciousness for around 15 hours. He was rushed to the hospital in Palma, where he remained for four days while doctors tried to determine the cause of his sudden illness.

Medical tests later revealed he had been poisoned with a high dose of benzodiazepines - a class of powerful tranquillisers.

Once discharged, the man went straight to the National Police station and formally accused his wife of poisoning him. A full investigation was launched by the Family and Women's Unit, leading to Jeffrey's arrest on suspicion of attempted murder.

Jeffrey was brought before a court on Thursday, where a magistrate ordered her release but imposed a restraining order preventing her from contacting the alleged victim.

The victim's lawyer requested that she not be remanded in custody, citing the fact the couple share a young child.

Images from the court hearing show Jeffrey in handcuffs, flanked by police officers, as she was escorted inside. Spanish authorities are understood to be continuing their investigation.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through Jeffrey's online following, where she has carefully curated an image of success, stability and family life.

One Instagram post from May 2025 shows Jeffrey and her husband on their wedding day. The caption reads: "Still standing. Still loving. Still us. Through sickness and in health."

Jeffrey gained international recognition in 2018 after producing a documentary promoting Majorca beyond its most popular tourist hotspots. She also published a book the same year and has continued to build her media profile ever since.

Spanish police have not ruled out potential further charges as inquiries continue.
