Harry Brook’s century made England the first semi-finalist, PAK’s problems increased

The 45th match of T20 World Cup 2026 was played between England and Pakistan. The match took place on 24 February at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. England won this match by 2 wickets. With this victory, England became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026.

 

This is the fifth consecutive time that England has reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Harry Brook is the only captain to score a century in this tournament. Pakistan’s defeat has made its path difficult in the semi-finals. Now Pakistan will have to completely depend on the results of other teams to secure a place in the semi-finals.

 

Pakistan’s innings

Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Pakistan did not have a good start, scoring runs at a very slow pace. In the first 12 overs, Pakistan scored 84 runs losing 3 wickets. In the remaining 8 overs the team scored 80 runs after losing 6 wickets. As a result, Pakistan could score only 164 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Sahibzada Farhan scored the highest score of 63 runs for Pakistan. Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman scored 25-25 runs. On the other hand, Liam Dawson took maximum three wickets for England. Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton took two wickets each. Adil Rashid took one wicket.

 

England’s innings

Chasing the target, the England team scored runs quickly in the beginning but could not stop the process of falling wickets. In the first 12 overs, the team had scored 104 runs after losing 5 wickets. After this, he lost 3 wickets in the remaining 8 overs and added 62 runs. Ultimately, England scored 166 runs for 8 wickets in 19.1 overs and won the match by 2 wickets with 5 balls remaining.

For England, Harry Brook scored the highest score of 100 runs, while Will Jacques scored 28 runs. On the other hand, Shaheen Shah Afridi took maximum four wickets for Pakistan. Mohammad Nawaz and Usman Tariq took two wickets each.

England is at the top of the points table of Group 2 of Super 8. Currently, England has one match left against New Zealand which is to be played on 27th February. New Zealand is at second place with one point. New Zealand still has two matches left. Pakistan is at third position with one point after playing two matches. A match of Pakistan is to be played against Sri Lanka on 28 February. Sri Lanka is at number four with zero points. Sri Lanka also has two matches left.

 

Now to secure a place in the semi-finals, Pakistan will first have to defeat Sri Lanka in their last Super 8 match. Apart from this, they will have to pray that New Zealand loses the remaining two matches, which will ensure Pakistan’s place in the semi-finals. If New Zealand wins a match, the decision will be based on net run rate.
