The ICC press conference room broke into brief laughter after a journalist blamed the Zimbabwe batter Brian Bennett himself for not giving Bennett enough chance to play the ball. Notably, on February 27, at the M. Chidambaram Stadium, Bennett was the only one fighting from the start, while others shattered while chasing a mammoth total of 257 against India. He missed a well-deserved century by just 3 runs, while Zimbabwe ended at 184 runs.
After the match, in the press conference, a journalist sounded very disappointed for not letting Bennett complete his century. Bennett was attending the reporters, when the journalist asked,
"Bennett had a good chance to score century. Why didn't your batters give him a chance?"
Bennett was naturally confused, but assured that he is Bennett himself, with a smile

Brian Bennett carried hopes for Zimbabwe throughout the tournament with the bat. The 22-year-old boy has 277 runs and is yet to play against South Africa in the Super 8 stage before packing bags. While Blessing Muzarabani caught attention with the ball, Bennett was no less. The 97 not out against India last night was his highest score. Even Indians, after coming out of the stadium, prayed for his century, but alas!

Chennai witnessed a power-packed performance as India posted a mammoth 256/4 against Zimbabwe in the 48th Super Eights match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Abhishek Sharma’s blazing 55 off 30 balls set the tone, supported by Ishan Kishan (38) and captain Suryakumar Yadav’s 33. Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 50 off 23 deliveries, alongside Tilak Varma’s 44*, propelled India to a 12.8 RPO surge.
Zimbabwe’s chase never gained momentum despite Brian Bennett’s valiant 97* off 59 balls. The visitors struggled against disciplined Indian bowling, with Arshdeep Singh claiming 3 wickets, while Shivam Dube, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel chipped in. Zimbabwe managed 184/6, falling short by 72 runs. Pandya’s all-round dominance earned him Player of the Match while India still dreams of a semifinal berth.
