Surathkal police have arrested two individuals for allegedly attempting to sell the banned narcotic substance MDMA near Mukka Weighing Bridge.
The arrested have been identified as Zakariya (38), a resident of Majoor Kombugudde in Kapu, Udupi district, and Mithun Poojary (23), from Tenkabettu Abbanakudru in Ulloor village, Santekatte.
Acting on credible information that Zakariya was arriving to sell MDMA, Surathkal police reached the Mukka Weighing Bridge area at around 4.15 pm on February 27. At the spot, officers noticed two cars parked next to each other. Upon questioning, the accused allegedly admitted that they had come to sell MDMA to college students in the Surathkal area and to members of the public.
During the search, police recovered 18.42 grams of MDMA from Zakariya and 36.18 grams from Mithun Poojary, totaling 54.6 grams of the narcotic substance, valued at approximately ₹5.41 lakh.
In addition, two cars worth ₹13 lakh, two mobile phones valued at ₹20,000, and ₹11,700 in cash were seized from the accused. The total value of the seized property amounts to ₹18,72,700.
A case has been registered at Surathkal police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Five Cases Against Zakariya
Police said Zakariya has five previous cases registered against him. These include an assault case at Bajpe police station in 2009, another assault case at Mulki police station in 2020, an assault case involving a woman in 2022, a kidnapping case registered at Udupi Town police station in 2021, and an assault case at Padubidri police station in 2022.
