Kolkata: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday called the Election Commission of India and the central government "biased" and "vindictive" and announced that she would observe a dharna on March 6. Banerjee claimed that she has fought for the rights of people from the beginning and will continue to fight till the end.
Banerjee asserted that she has faith in the people of Bhabanipur constituency and said she is confident of winning from there.
Speaking about the large-scale voter deletions in her constituency, she said "In Bhabanipur, there were 2.06 lakh voters earlier. They deleted 44,000 names during the draft roll and now further deletions of 2,000 were done. With 14,000 under adjudication, where are the voters then," she asked."This has been wrongfully done. The names have been deleted by ECI and AI," Banerjee said and condemned the deletion of names of genuine voters, despite submitting documents. "ECI is taking decisions before the verdict by the people."
"Around 1.20 crore people are likely to lose their right to vote and there will be huge deletions in the final Bengal-SIR rolls. This has made me sad," Banerjee said and alleged that there is a 'nexus' between the poll panel and the BJP to disenfranchise genuine voters and help the BJP win the upcoming assembly elections.
"ECI has deliberately deleted genuine voters. I am sad and shocked. This is injustice and a sorry state of affairs," she said. She mentioned that one person died after he was sent for "adjudication". She claimed that the deletions had been carried out "deliberately by the BJP and EC" to tilt the electoral balance in its favour.
