Delhi: Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has described self-confidence and continuous hard work as the biggest keys to success. While giving a message to the players during a CII program organized in West Bengal, he said that if a person has faith in his ability and continues to work hard, then sooner or later success is definitely achieved.
Example of Sanju Samson’s innings
In the program, Ganguly mentioned Sanju Samson’s impressive inning of 97 runs played against West Indies. He said that there was a time when Samson was being criticized for his continuous poor performance, but the maturity with which he batted in a pressurized match proved his ability. Ganguly believes that this performance showed why he was given priority over Shubman Gill in the team combination.
Every day is a chance for a new beginning.
Ganguly said that not only in sports but also in life, every day brings a new beginning. If a player or any professional person maintains faith in his abilities, failures cannot stop him for long. Giving an example, he said that in the 1999 World Cup, the Australian team became champion by registering consecutive wins despite losing the initial match.
Cricket gave confidence in life
The former captain admitted that cricket gave him the confidence to move forward in life. According to him, the discipline, patience and ability to take decisions under pressure learned from sports made him strong in personal and professional life.
Position is not permanent, deeds are permanent
While sharing his experiences, Ganguly said that no person can remain on any post forever. He clarified that neither one can remain the captain of the Indian team nor the head of any organization throughout his life. According to him, the essence of life is that a person should perform every role with respect and should not differentiate between big and small tasks.
Special relationship with Bengal cricket and Eden Gardens
Ganguly said that Bengal cricket is very close to his heart. Describing Eden Gardens as a special part of his life, he recalled that he had visited this ground for the first time at the age of 13. Referring to the old times, he said that once they used to get Rs 100 for playing a Ranji Trophy match, whereas today players get crores of rupees for a season in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which shows the changing nature of cricket.
It is noteworthy that Team India has currently reached the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The blue jersey team has to play against England in Mumbai on March 5. In such a situation, Ganguly has also given Gurumantra for victory to Suryakumar and Company.
