A Muslim man who fatally attacked ex-Muslim YouTuber Salim Vastik in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh was killed by the UP Police during an encounter. Uttar Pradesh Police killed one of the main accused, Zeeshan, during an encounter on Sunday (March 1). According to the police, the accused injured in the encounter was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Giving information in this regard, Uttar Pradesh Police said that the criminal carrying a reward of ₹ 1 lakh, who attacked Salim Vastik alias Aakwal in Loni police station area, was arrested by Ghaziabad in injured condition during the encounter. The official statement of the police said, “The journey of fear is over – the criminal declared with a reward of ₹ 01 lakh/-, who had carried out a fatal attack on Salim Vastik alias Aakwal under Loni police station area, was arrested by the Ghaziabad Police in an injured state during the encounter, who was declared dead by the doctor during treatment.”
Police further said, “01 Made in Italy pistol and the paper cutter used in the fatal attack on Salim Vastik have been recovered from the possession of the accused.”
In fact, at around 8 am on February 26, two unknown assailants entered Salim Vastik’s office in Ashok Vihar Colony, Loni area of Ghaziabad and attacked him with a sharp weapon. According to the police, the attackers had come on a motorcycle and were wearing helmets. After the attack they fled from the spot. Local people heard the noise and informed the police.
Seriously injured Vastik was first admitted to the local hospital, but when his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Delhi, where his treatment is ongoing. According to hospital sources, his condition remains very serious.
According to the police, the slain accused has been identified as Zeeshan, a resident of Amroha, who was hit by two bullets during the encounter. An FIR was registered against seven named accused in the case on the complaint of Salim Vastik’s son Usman. 10 special teams were formed and raids were conducted at four places in Delhi and Ghaziabad to arrest the accused.
After this attack, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed the police to take “strict action” and arrest the attackers soon.
Although some individuals and organizations have linked the attack to Salim Vastik’s former Muslim identity and his public statements, police have not yet officially confirmed the motive behind the attack. Investigation is ongoing.
